Irish man stole condoms, flowers and perfume to woo back his fiancée

A man stole perfume, flowers and two boxes of condoms in a bid to patch things up with his fiancée as their romantic get away went horribly wrong in Co. Wexford last weekend.

Erinn O'Brien (24), originally from 13 Kilmahuddrick Court, Clondalkin, Dublin, but now living in Tullow, Co. Carlow, appeared before Wexford District Court on Monday, where Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla heard 'quite an extraordinary sequence of events' involving the defendant.

Garda Pat Fielding said he arrested O'Brien last Saturday at Irish Street, Enniscorthy. The Garda outlined how O'Brien, at around 3.50 p.m., stole a bottle of perfume worth €36 from Kelly's Pharmacy, of Slaney Place, and then went next door and stole a bouquet of flowers worth €9.99 from O'Leary's newsagents.

He was arrested and brought to the Garda Station, where a search also revealed two boxes of condoms stolen from Caulfield's SuperValu on Millpark Road.

Leonard Leader, for O'Brien, said the newly engaged couple went to the Millrace Hotel in Bunclody for a romantic weekend break, but following a heated argument on Friday night, Ms. Murphy threw her engagement ring back at O'Brien. He then got razor blades and attempted to slit his wrists. They were asked to leave the hotel and on Saturday booked into Treacy's Hotel in nearby Enniscorthy.

Following the argument O'Brien also took ten D10 Valium tablets and Mr. Leader said this caused him to 'go on a rampage stealing things he thought would help him patch things up with Ms. Murphy'. The judge ordered that a Probation Officer's Report be prepared and remanded O'Brien on bail to appear before Enniscorthy District Court on April 15.
