A man suspected of being a serial cat killer has been arrested after he was allegedly seen battering a kitten to death on the steering wheel of his car.
Officers seized a car and found the inside was soaked with blood. They then discovered the bodies of two dead cats in a plastic bag in the passenger footwell.
The blood-soaked bodies of another four dead kittens were found in the boot of the blue Vauxhall Astra.
Hertfordshire Police said a St Albans man held in Stevenage on Thursday had been charged with animal cruelty and public order offences.
Brendan Rogers, 33, from St Albans, appeared before a special court at Stevenage on Saturday and was remanded.
