A police force force has apologised to a widow after returning the blood-stained rope her husband used to hang himself.
Angie Gerrelli found the yellow tow rope in a sack of items given to her by bungling officers after her estranged 50-year-old partner killed himself in a park in Barry, South Wales.
Ms Gerrelli, 52, from Amersham, Buckinghamshire, has hit out at the insensitivity shown by South Wales Police in the incident.

Recounting the time she discovered the grisly item, Ms Gerrelli said: “I reached into the bag and took out the laptop, and then I saw yellow and realised what I had in my hand. I went to pieces - I just sunk to the floor. I dropped it and put my hands to my face.” She added: “I’m not sleeping and I’ve got to go back to the doctors.”
Chief Inspector Jay Dave of South Wales Police, said: “This was a very unfortunate incident and I would like to apologise for any distress caused as a result.
“The officers concerned will be spoken to about this and steps will be put in place to ensure that there will be no repeat.”
