Tenant who bulldozed landlords' home sues them for making him homeless - Update

A man jailed for flattening a couple's house with a mechanical digger is suing them for £36,000 for making him homeless.

Robert Taylor, 54, ripped apart a £260,000 four-bedroom house and two cars worth £50,000 in a row over rent at the caravan site where he lived.

He was jailed for six years in 2006 for the wrecking spree which was directed against James Harvard and Janice Gledhill, who owned the caravan park.

The couple subsequently sold Taylor's caravan to recoup some of the costs of the damage he caused. But now Taylor is suing them from his prison cell to claim back the cost of his caravan.

Mr Harvard, 49, who runs Eastlands Meadows caravan park in Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex, said: "It's a bloody cheek after what he has put us through. He's suing us for making him homeless and suing us for allegedly selling his caravan without his consent.

"We have the right to sell the caravan on if a debt is run up. Everything we have done is legal and above board. The system is crazy. If we don't respond properly we could be held in contempt of court."
