A man is being treated at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after his son tried to cut a pacemaker from his chest.
Jesse L. Fierstine, 32, of rural Manchester, was arrested Saturday for attempted murder after he allegedly struck his father, Charles Fierstine, 63, in the head with a flashlight and a piece of firewood. He then proceeded to cut a pacemaker from his father's chest using a pocketknife.
Charles Fierstine was taken to Regional Medical Center in Manchester before being transported to Iowa City for further treatment.
Investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, the Division of Criminal Investigation, the Manchester Police Department and the Delaware County Attorney continues. No information was available regarding Charles Fierstine's condition.
