Whiter Shade Of Pale is Britain's most-heard record

A Whiter Shade Of Pale, the Procul Harum hit that spent six weeks at the top of the charts in 1967, was today disclosed as the most-heard song in public places over the last 75 years.

Others in the top five of the chart, compiled by music licensing company PPL for its 75th anniversary, included The Everly Brothers' All I Have To Do Is Dream, Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around and Bryan Adams' (Everything I Do) I do It For You.

The Top Ten are:

1. Procol Harum A Whiter Shade Of Pale 08/06/1967

2. Queen Bohemian Rhapsody 29/11/1975

3. Everly Brothers All I Have To Do Is Dream 04/07/1958

4. Wet Wet Wet Love Is All Around 04/06/1994

5. Bryan Adams (Everything I Do) I Do It For You 13/07/1991

8. Abba Dancing Queen 04/09/1976

9. Perry Como Magic Moments 28/02/1958

10.Bing Crosby White Christmas 01/01/1942

For a long time now, I haven't been able to listen to this song without imagining
a lady eating a fried egg sandwich. If you haven't seen Withnail and I, you'll have no idea what I'm talking about.
