An Afghan man shot dead his adult daughter and her boyfriend, who were both engaged to other people, after finding them in bed together, police said on Thursday.
The first cousins were found together late Tuesday after the 21-year-old man entered the 20-year-old woman's bedroom in the northern province of Baghlan, a police spokesman said.
'The two were under the blanket, but still in their clothes, when the girl's angry father walked in with an AK-47 machine gun and shot them both dead,' spokesman Jawaid Basharat said.
A medical examination showed the pair had not had sex, he said. He fired about six bullets into the man and four into his daughter, Basharat said.
'The father confessed that he killed them both after he found them in bed,' said provincial police chief Abdul Rehmand Sayedkhaili.
The motive for the murders was likely to protect family 'honour.' Similar killings are common in rural Afghanistan but rarely reported.
