Couple accused of wedding day murder

Barry and Wendy Johnson, a newlywed couple, murdered a father-of-two after George Auchterlonie was caught sleeping with the bride on her wedding day, a court heard.

Barry Johnson, 39, and his wife Wendy, 40, allegedly beat George Auchterlonie to death just hours after they tied the knot in front of family and friends.

A court heard that Wendy slept with George, her secret lover, following the service on June 9 last year. The following morning, she allegedly told Barry that she was raped at George's flat in Plymouth, Devon.

She let Barry into the property where they punched, kicked and battered him with sailing equipment including an oar and rope, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

The attack left George with a string of injuries to the front and back of his skull, and a broken nose. A post mortem examination later revealed he sustained a total of 38 wounds, 14 of which were to the head and neck. He was found dead three days later in a pool of blood.

Barry and Wendy, nee Shobrook, have pleaded not guilty to murder at Plymouth Crown Court.
