Police charged a city couple on Tuesday with throwing a chihuahua from their vehicle and abandoning the dog in a New Bedford neighbourhood. Witnesses called police after seeing the couple return almost an hour later and remark that the "stupid dog" was still where they had left it, officials said.
Jimmy Correa, 24, of 118 Sycamore St. and Jenny Torres, 31, 588 Brock Ave. are charged with two felony counts of cruelty to animals for abandoning and throwing an animal from a moving vehicle.
They are scheduled to be arraigned today in New Bedford District Court.
Meanwhile, the adult female chihuahua named Princess was recovered by animal control officers and taken to Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River, where the dog will be put up for adoption.
