A groom was arrested at his wedding reception after a fight broke out over his nephew's low-slung trousers. John Lucas allegedly confronted security after they claimed Samuel Lucas had violated the venue's dress code with his trousers.
The fracas broke out just 20 minutes after the bride and groom said 'I do' at the Crystal Plantation in Kenner, Louisiana. An off-duty policeman working at the wedding asked Samuel Lucas, 19, to pull up his baggy trousers to comply with the reception hall's formal dress code. The officer reportedly told the youngster 'We don't want to see your underwear', which sparked a heated confrontation with the wedding party.
The teenager's father, Walter Lucas, allegedly told the officer, 'Mind your own business', and began arguing. When the officer tried to escort him from the reception, Walter Lucas resisted, according to the police report.
Groom John Lucas, 53, then became involved, allegedly grabbing the officer's arm and trying to get between the cop and his brother. Reports said the groom then tried to prevent the officer reaching for his handcuffs to arrest his 52-year-old brother. When the nephew protested, he was hit with pepper spray by the officer, who had called for back-up.
All three men were arrested for disturbing the peace. John Lucas was also arrested for obstruction of police, and Walter Lucas for resisting an officer.
The owner of the Crystal Plantation said that every party is asked to sign a contract agreeing to the dress code. 'You have in-laws and you have outlaws,' said owner Leonard Dazet. 'All the kid had to do was pull up his pants.'
