Police on the hunt for lost teddy bear

Kindly German police have launched a nationwide alert for a missing teddy bear after an Australian student pleaded with them to help find her lost friend.

The desperate girl who is currently studying in Germany begged detectives from Göttingen in the central state of Lower Saxony to find the teddy she has loved since she was a child.

She emailed the most recent photo of her one-eyed best friend in front of Göttingen's central train station along with her plea for a bear-hunt and soft-hearted police could not refuse her.

They issued an immediate nationwide alert for the missing toy and the story has been picked up by local newspapers as well as television stations.

"It was a pretty desperate cry for help so if we can do something we'll be very happy," an investigating officer said.

"The student is really upset. She must be very attached to that teddy."
