Woman marries two hours after giving birth

A mother walked up the aisle to get married just two hours after giving birth. Siobhan Jones described it as the "double happiest day of my life."

The first-time mum, of Siddal, Halifax, was determined that having a baby girl was not going to stop her wedding to Robert Black going ahead.

So after little Alisha's arrival at Calderdale Royal Hospital at 1.50pm, she had a shower, changed into her wedding dress and was swapping vows at Somerset House by 4pm. Baby Alisha became the youngest guest ever to attend a Calderdale wedding.

The new Mrs Black, 19, said: "The baby was two weeks late and as it got later and later we were all joking it could happen on the wedding day.

"But we never thought it might actually happen. It just seemed like it would be too big a coincidence. I went into labour at about 3am and I thought there'd be plenty of time but in the end it was a bit of a tight squeeze. Everyone was super patient, thoughtful, and it turned out just perfect."

Such was the couple's commitment to the wedding that Robert, 21, from Manchester, missed the birth because he was organising emergency plans.
