The grandmother of three was taking a midnight shower when the bath cracked open, causing her to slip and get wedged. Her 23-year-old son Stuart was asleep in bed and did not hear her cries for help until the morning, when he dialled 999.
A fire engine was sent from Consett fire station and firefighters used a six-inch electronic saw to cut away the bath and all the time the stricken woman only had a shower curtain to spare her blushes.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the crew was at the scene for an hour. He said: "I can't imagine anyone would want to ring for help when they were naked in the bath. I am sure we were very discreet in our operations, made sure she was completely covered up and knew what was happening."
She put on a nightie after being released and was taken to hospital by waiting paramedics. The embarrassed grandmother thanked the emergency services for their help.
Mrs Batey, who has an under-active thyroid, vowed to lose seven stone and will start exercising after her ordeal on April 23.
