An Australian grandmother on 'nana duty' at her granddaughter's second birthday party was left lying on the road in a pool of blood after she was run over by a disgruntled parent who had egg on her face, a court has been told.
Nikki Antoniolli, 58, was at the child's party on February 11, 2006 at Highland Park, when she saw mother-of-seven Elizabeth Gloria Joy Gordon gathering up her children to leave after an adult's egg-and-spoon race.
Ms Gordon, now 35, was allegedly upset and angry following the race in which two raw eggs were thrown in her direction by two other women, hitting her on the nose and chest.
In her opening address, Crown prosecutor Lisa Hughes alleged Ms Gordon had been drinking tequila and became angry and aggressive after the race. She said Mrs Antoniolli was concerned Ms Gordon was not in a fit state to drive and was worried about the two children in the car.
"Nikki Antoniolli pointed at Ms Gordon and asked her not to drive. Ms Gordon paid no attention and while Mrs Antoniolli was leaning in the car, she put the foot down on the accelerator. Mrs Antoniolli was trapped, she was dragged a number of metres and fell to the ground. She was sucked under the van and ran over by the back wheel," she said.
Ms Gordon is on trial for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm to Mrs Antoniolli while adversely affected by liquor. Mrs Antoniolli said her injuries included broken ribs, a punctured and collapsed lung, head injuries and severe damage to her right foot. She was in intensive care for eight days.
