Inappropriate 999 calls

Operators often have to deal with calls to the 999 emergency system that are quite clearly not emergencies. Many of these calls are not even a matter for any emergency service.



These calls may seem amusing but the callers are clearly misusing the 999 facility. Those who dial 999 when it is not an emergency could be preventing a genuine emergency call being answered. These include where a person has been seriously hurt, or about to be seriously hurt, and situations which require immediate police action.
