Miracle escape for boy as car plunges into Turkish shopping centre

A young boy has escaped with barely a scratch after being hit by a runaway car which hurled him through the air. CCTV footage broadcast on Turkish television showed the vehicle flying off the street and hitting four-year-old Muhammet Dirlik, knocking him down a flight of steps.

The youngster can then be seen picking himself and walking away. A second taller boy can be seen running away from the fast-moving white car in Sanliurfa, Turkey.

Muhammet told reporters he had been wandering around on the pavement when the car knocked into him but said he had not been hurt. It crashed through the front window of a shop before being hauled back onto the street with the help of onlookers.

It was not until the following day that Muhammet's father realised his son was the youngster hit by the car. "We understood that there was an accident when we heard the noise," Ibrahim Halil Dirlik told a local TV station.

"I saw my son coming towards me crying. We were not aware that he had been hit by the car. We thought that he just freaked out and was crying because the car had crashed into the shop. We only realised the next day that the car hit my son."

The car driver has reportedly said he swerved to avoid running over a puppy and lost control of the vehicle.
