A man stole clothes from washing lines after he robbed an 83-year-old woman in Wigan. On Wednesday afternoon the victim confronted the offender in the communal hallway of her home in Thurlow, Lowton.
He then grabbed the her handbag before she was pushed to the floor. The victim had a badly bruised hip and leg.
The attacker then ran out of back door and jumped over garden fences to escape. As he left the offender took clothes from neighbours' washing lines and changed into them.
Detective Constable Alison Wallwork said: "This was a quite horrendous attack. That the offender pushed this woman over just for the sake of stealing a handbag, is cowardly.
"The offender then decided to cause more commotion to residents by stealing their clothes and changing in a bizarre effort to cover his tracks.
"I am sure that there were people who will have seen something that can help this inquiry, and I would appeal for them to come forward."
