A teenager who put ketchup on his arms and faked his suicide on a live video website has been charged.
New York state police received several calls on Tuesday night about a young man allegedly broadcasting a suicide attempt over the internet.
Captain Steven Nitrelli says the calls came from as far away as Israel, where the website is hosted.
Nitrelli said police traced the computer address to a home in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence. He says the teenager, who has not been named, admitted the hoax and insisted it was just a joke.
He has been charged with one third-degree count of falsely reporting an incident and will appear in court on October 29.
Police withheld his name because of his age.

The only problem with this story is the three investigating New York State police officers saw cuts on the young boys arms during their initial investigation that night and decided they were not deep enough to bleed when in fact they were caused by a razor blade and were bleeding. The young boy was scared he would be in trouble if he told them the cuts were real and that he had used a razor blade to cut his wrist and arms. The next day the cuts had scabbed over. This kid could have been helped by the New York State Police officers if they had proper training when in reality they made his life a living hell just to make themselves look good in the public domain. After they assured him nothing bad was going to happen to him that night... the next day they waited until he got home from school and arrested him at his home and called all the news departments to wait at the NY State police barracks so they could parade him in front of the cameras in handcuffs like he was some hardened criminal when in reality he really needed help dealing with real pressures in his life. Clarence has had a rash of teen suicides and this youngster had three of his close friends commit suicide within two years. Law enforcement officers should be trained to err on the side of caution when dealing with teenagers and suicide and know the warning signs. Never was a call made to a mental health professional or social worker to make sure the kid was really OK before they arrested and charged and publicly humiliated him in front of the world. Three words: teenager, cutting and suicide should be taken very seriously by law enforcement and they should have proper training when dealing with such circumstances.
