Dairy makes cheese that tastes like Christmas cake

A Welsh dairy has launched an extraordinary new cheese - that tastes like traditional British Christmas cake. The creation is a mix of brandy, fruit, spices and cheese and according to its producers South Caernarfon Creameries, it tastes surprisingly good.

The company has been inundated with orders from curious customers interested in the unusual blend of flavours - and with thousands flying off the shelves, it looks like it could be sold out before the holidays.

Sian Davies, who came up with the strange concoction, said, "I was just playing about with recipes in the kitchen, it was approaching Christmas and I thought about using festive ingredients".

"It was a strange combination but I thought it might work so I gave it a go and, surprisingly, it works really well.

"It tastes of Christmas cake but it also tastes of cheese - it's peculiar but really nice."

Priced at £2.50 for seven ounces (200g), the blocks of cheese are on sale in the UK’s Selfridges stores. "We've had lots of enquiries about this cheese - more than we've ever had for any of our other products", Ms Davies said.
