A chubby supply teacher who stripped to his waist in front of a class of laughing teenagers has been found guilty of serious misconduct. Martin Rouse, 57, claimed he was 'trying to be cool' when he took off his shirt in front of a class of 30 rowdy 14-year-olds. But one of the pupils at Sudbury Upper School, Suffolk, videoed the 45-second strip on his mobile phone and posted the clip on YouTube.
A pupil at the school said: 'It was hilarious. People were goading him saying 'I bet you haven't got their muscles. He told us all 'I'll show you' and started taking off his shirt. 'We all thought he was taking the piss at first and pretending but he took his shirt off and started flexing his muscles. Then he said 'look I told you I do have their muscles'.
'He put his shirt back on but he was still buttoning it up when he was teaching. Everyone was killing themselves laughing.' Rouse was sacked on the spot by headmaster David Forrest after a colleague exposed him. Suffolk County Council also banned him from its 357 schools.
The General Teaching Council (GTC) refused to strike Rouse off the teaching register and instead gave him a reprimand which will stay on his record for two years. Rouse can continue to work as a teacher but must declare his reprimand when applying for jobs. Rouse, of Thetford, Norfolk, defended his actions, claiming he was 'trying to be cool'.
