'Fleshmob' strips in protest over 'naked scanners'

A video showing German activists stripping off to protest the use of controversial full-body scanners has been posted online.

The “Fleshmob” converged on the Berlin-Tegel airport after German and Dutch authorities announced they were looking to test and possibly deploy full-body scanners over the next year.

Organised by members of Germany’s Pirate Party, the group wrote messages on their bodies including “something to hide?” and “be a good citizen – drop your pants”.

They also handed out leaflets detailing their concerns about the scanners’ invasion of privacy to shocked onlookers.

The protest comes amid growing concern over the devices, which have been branded “virtual strip searchers”. Privacy campaigners have complained that the devices breach child porn laws.

However some countries, led by the US, have rushed to install the scanners since a Nigerian man was charged with trying to blow up a US-bound jet on Christmas day using explosives allegedly sewn into his underwear.

In fact it didn't just happen in Berlin. There are more photos and videos here.
