Prayers to Mother Mary 'cured lung cancer'

An Australian woman is claiming she was cured of cancer through the power of prayer and the wearing of a holy relic. Kathleen Evans, 66, from New South Wales, was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in 1993 and given months to live.

But, she says, by wearing a relic of Mother Mary MacKillop's clothing and regular prayer, she made a full recovery and needed no other treatment. The relic was given to her by a friend.



Mrs Evans said the prayers from her, her family and friends to Mother Mary resulted in tumours in her lung and brain disappearing.

Medical experts were left baffled when subsequent X-rays showed the only evidence of her cancer was scarring, she said.



"There was quite a few (doctors) that examined me, but there was just no explanation. I didn't have any treatment," she told reporters in Sydney.

The Roman Catholic church has refused to reveal any medical evidence to support Mrs Evans' claims of a cure, and she says she wants to keep her records private.
