Well-mannered boy, 12, robs store with toy gun

Walton County, Fla. Sheriff's Deputies say a 12-year-old boy walked into a convenience store, pointed a toy gun at a clerk, and demanded money from the register. But he didn't leave the store without thanking the clerk. It happened on Thursday, January 7, at the Paxton, Fla. Tom Thumb store around 7:00 p.m.

The store clerk said the preteen pointed the wood barreled, long gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register. After she handed over the cash, the boy thanked her, then ran out the door.

A deputy on patrol in the area got the call, and saw a boy matching the suspect's description walking down the side of the road. He tried to take off running, but the deputy caught up with him and slapped on the cuffs.

The 12-year-old started crying, and begged the deputy, "Please don't take me to jail!"

Authorities found the cash and toy gun used in the stick-up just off Highway 331. The suspect was first taken to Walton County Jail, then later transferred to the department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.

An investigator for the Department of Children and Families has been contacted, and is assisting the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in the case.
