Dog started fire trying to get cake

A woman in Oklahoma says her dog is a cuddly puppy whose sweet tooth caused a fire that nearly burned down their home.

"Lucy was trying to get to a cake on top of the stove," Kay Wardlow said. "Her big paws twisted the knob and turned the gas burner on."

The container holding the cake started burning, filling the Oklahoma home with smoke.

The Wardlows credit the quick thinking of a Florida ADT security employee with saving their house. David Brown was still in training when he got an alarm call and alerted the Wardlows to the fire burning through their kitchen.

"I just remained calm, did my job and followed procedures," Brown said. "You wouldn't suspect to wake up one day and save somebody's house."

But the Wardlows said without Brown, it would have been a tragedy. "I was worried about Lucy," Wardlow said. "I didn't realize she was the villain and the victim at the same time. ... We're very grateful. We're most grateful to David. He's really the hero in this whole deal."
