Bullet in a bible for sale

A bible with a bullet lodged in it that is said to have belonged to a New Zealand soldier, is for sale at Trade Me.

Christchurch man Kelly Harris is selling the family heirloom that once belonged to his great-great-grandfather's brother, Corporal William Henry Pimm.

Pimm served as one of Kitchener's Troopers in the Boer War and continued his service into World War I.

Harris said the story of how the bullet had become lodged in the pages had been passed down through the generations of his family with the bible as well.

"The story goes that he was praying with his bible before battle. From what we can understand, he was closing it as the stray bullet went in," he said.

Harris said Pimm's good fortune didn't last as he died from wounds received in battle 48 hours after his bible was struck.
