Television gameshow Countdown briefly flirted with an obscenity when contestants were asked to create a word using the letters U, D, F, C, K, E.
Numbers girl Rachel Riley cringed as the letters came up and host Jeff Stelling gave a wry smile.
However the two quiz entrants spared further blushes by digging out safe five letter words.
The full set of nine letters on the popular afternoon quiz also included A, G and O.
The contestants went for "caged" and "faced".
And the Channel 4 programme, which marks its 5,000 edition today, was spared from further embarrassment when resident expert Susie Dent came up with two seven letter words - "dogface" and "dockage".

Really, both contestants opted for 5 letter words? I'm not convinced I would've ignored the obvious 6 letter option. They also missed another 7 letter word: GEODUCK
