Silly, yes, but two things:  first, I suppose she's pretty damned unlikely to get skin cancer and second, let's not forget that in England and America just a century ago our grandmothers and great grandmothers wore outfits that were arguably even less suited for beachwear (check out pictures here:
http://www.fashion-era.com/early_swimwear.htm).  At least you could swim in the modern getup!  (And you don't need to wear stockings or shoes!)

Sorry, screwed up the link somehow - here's one of the pictures from the site.

I'm really glad to see the comments are a lot less vile than they were last time a similar photo was posted.

Yeah, but today we know about the importance of vitamin D.  She can't possibly be getting any in that getup.

So my question to her is, "Why bother even going to the beach?"  Everyone around you is "sinfully" showing their skin, you're not reaping the benefits of the sunshine, and you look like a giant condom.

I'm allergic to the sun - I break out in blisters within minutes - so I would totally wear something like that, if it meant that I could go to the beach!

Thank you for the history lesson but I don't understand why you thought you needed to contrast what was done by one culture 100 years ago with what is done by another culture today. Are you trying to point out that moral standards are slipping for one or that moral standards are 100 years behind for another?

I don't see how she's harming any of her fellow earthlings with this behavior. Let her be.

hum I still find this an insult to women. Our grand-mothers, great grand-mothers and so on fought for womens right. A 100 years ago it was not permitted for women to vote, show their legs in public.. etc. The catholic religion was telling them what to do, even my mom was told that she wasn't having children fast enough.

If you believe in women's rights, why don't you believe in this woman's right to wear whatever she wants at the beach?

Do you really think she had a choice? It's more likely than not that religion and men in her society have dictated what she can and can't do with her own body.
