Virgin Media wrote letter addressed to 'Mr Illegal Immigrant'

A 24-year-old has spoken of his shock at receiving a letter from Virgin Media addressed to "Mr Illegal Immigrant". Aaron Needham said he felt offended after being sent the mailshot to his home in Cranwell Road, Strelley.

The letter, which he opened on Wednesday, was signed on behalf of the company by Mark Davidson, executive director of customer care. It was addressed to "Mr Illegal Immigrant" and started with "Dear Mr Immigrant".

Mr Needham, who works for Nottingham City Homes, said: "I was a bit shocked. I was taken aback. I was offended. I have tried to ring up and complain and they have not really done anything about it. They kept passing me from pillar to post. They tried to say it was not their fault, it was somebody else. It is not good."

A spokeswoman for Virgin Media in Nottingham apologised for the upset caused to Mr Needham and insisted it was an isolated incident. The marketing database we used was purchased from a third party. We are in contact with that third party to investigate this error, which we take very seriously."

The question remains unanswered.  Was he an illegal immigrant?
