Car passenger killed in freak accident after tyre she was holding on her lap explodes

A US Air Force officer has died after a tyre exploded inside her sports car while she was on holiday in Scotland, police said. Captain Jenna Wilcox, 27, who had survived a roadside bomb attack on a recent tour in Afghanistan, was on a break with her husband when the freak accident happened last week. She was rushed to hospital but died last night.

It is thought the couple had changed the wheel on their BMW Z3 after noticing a bulge in a tyre. They replaced it with the space saver tyre - designed to get them to a local garage - but could not fit the full size one in the boot because it was full of luggage.

Capt Wilcox, of the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron based at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, sat with it on her lap inside the car. It is not known what caused it to explode. She died from her injuries at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, five days after the accident.

Her 27-year-old husband Scott is also a captain in the air force with 48th Civil Engineer Squadron, based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. He suffered minor injuries in the tyre explosion, which happened in Dalkeith, Midlothian, at around 6pm last Saturday.

I guess when it's your time to go, it's your time to go.

What a weird accident, though.

Wait a minute- She was sent ther by her government.
If you live in a democracy and you have a government democratically chosen by the people of the country and you are in the army of that country--- You are bound by contract and by law to obey your boss = your government = your people. If you do not obey while you are in function, you end up in jail as a warcriminal.

So her going to war in Afghanistan has nothing to do with her personal opinion over that war whatsoever. It only has to do with her doing her job appointed to her by a democratically chosen government.

Pat  If you are a UK-resident---- Blame yourself because you did not succeed in rallying your peer-citizens in voting for another government that would have been opposed to sending troops to Afghanistan.

But do not blame her- If you do not walk in her shoes or in the shoes of those soldiers ---you have no right to judge her. Whatsoever.

I would be curious to why it wasn't in the back seat with herself in the front.

Pat, People like you make me sick. She was someone's daughter, wife and friend.

It was a two-seater BMW Z3, Steve.

Thanks for that. It certainly explains it. I wouldn't know much about the newer BMW's.
