The man was restrained by flight stewards after he made threats to disrupt QF31 using mind power.
According to reporter Nick Luchinelli, who was onboard the flight, it seemed the middle-aged man was either under the influence of drugs or alcohol or both.
He was suffering some sort of delusion and people sitting close to him said he was threatening to use the power of his mind to bring the flight down.
The stewards had to take the threat seriously so he had his arms and legs cuffed and remained that way for the rest of the flight.
Singaporean police boarded the flight after passengers disembarked.

So how did they restrain him? Also with mindpower (and some not to be bothered to mention - help of handcuffs)...?
If the stewards really had taken the threat seriously, they would have knocked him unconscious. Handcuffs are obviously insufficient against a man with such powers of the mind.
I served on subs in the 80's. Once a new crewman couldn't take the confinement and tried to open a series of hatches to get out. The water pressure would have been too great to open the hatch anyway, but he tried. I don't think he planned ahead to know what he would do several hundred feet underwater.
He was shackled in his rack (bed) for the rest of the voyage.
Poor guy- And I thought that was the kind of scenario's one only saw during scenes of exploding depts-charges in movies like "Hunt for the Red October" or "Das Boot" or "U-539".
