A 62-year-old woman has told how she became one of the world's oldest mother of twins - after being told she was too old to adopt.
Psychologist Krasimira Dimitrova had been so frustrated by adoption red tape in Rousse, Bulgaria, that she decided to take IVF treatment to start her own family.
Now Dr Dimitrova has given birth to healthy twins Merry and Jacklyn by caesarian section.
"I wanted a family but when I was frustrated by the adoption service I realised the only way to make this happen would be to give birth to my own children," she said.

If there was nothing besides her age holding her back, she probably could have adopted an older child, maybe a teenager. It's been done. But if you were in charge of placing infants or toddlers with adoptive parents, would you take a chance on a parent with short odds of surviving til the child is grown?
That is one old-looking 62-year-old!
Is she even going to last until they're weaned?
Guys, I am from Bulgaria and the story is not nearly as nice as they make it out to be. First, social services say that the woman did not want a child - she wanted a baby. During the visits with the social workers they were unsatisfied with her motives for becoming a mother. Sorry, but I wouldn't trust a woman her age with a baby either. Her friends claim that she spent her life caring for her dominating parents and she was able to chase her dream for a family only after their deaths. Sorry again, it was too late. She doesn't have a husband. She doesn't have any relatives. How is she going to take care of two newborns? Finally, the babies are in critical condition. The smaller one weighs only slightly more than a pound and already had an operation and there is no guarantee that she won't need another one soon. The bigger baby weighs 2 pounds and for now, her life isn't in danger. But they are both likely to have some serious damages, specialists say. I saw them on the TV and I cannot say how shocking it was. The doctors who agreed to make the procedures should be sued.
I agree. Just because you want something doesn't mean you should have it, and that goes about a hundred fold when the desire is to have a baby. This is the epitome of selfishness, and she obviously cares nothing for the well-being and future of the poor babies.
Oops! I didn't realize my name wasn't there.
Just a visitor: Thanks for the extra info.
Poor kids :(
Happened here in Canada, a 60ish women wanted kids and because of her age they refused to do invitro. So that women left with her husband for India (where they are from) to get treatments done. She came back pregnant and with twins...

I suppose I should feel sorry for the woman. She's a victim, too, of doctors who fight to gain more patients. Her life was never an easy one, it seems. But I can't. These poor kids occupied all sympathy I've got. I'm furios with the old hag, I am not pitying her at all. What kind of a phychiatrist she was, I wonder? She could not stand even for herself, let alone help others! But the doctors should have stopped her. THey must have known what was likely to happen and they didn't care. I wonder what the number of successful cases in these clinics will be if they start counting the healthy newborns, not just the ones who survived. She wanted to have a baby? She should have felt this desire, let's say, FORTY YEARS ago! The fact that she got pregnant twice with such procedures means that she never had any fertility problem. Being old is NOT a fertility problem, it's the most natural thing in the world. I can tell you one thing for sure - I'll never, never donate an egg-cell. Just the thought that my desire to help a suffering childless family might turn into these pitiful creatures we see in all TVs here makes me sick. But well, if I feel the desire to have a baby with my favourite gorilla from the zoo, I'll know where I should go to fulfil my dream. It's disgusting! It isn't a coincidence that almost all clinics in Bulgaria refused to help her. That fact alone is enough to raise my respect for our doctors just a notch.
At least the Canadian-Indian woman had a husband. Here, there is no such character. Just the unstable and ancient mother. And those who read about the 'healthy twins Mary and Jaqueline' and actually believe it should really have a look at this video. The babies are shown in 00.56.

I am not sure the link is going to work in this blog, but if someone actually managed to watch it, let's say whether these poor things there look like babies, or a mockery of human life.
HI,
I am also from Bulgaria and absolutely support the decision of the woman. This is only her personal choice and nobody is authorizied to judge her.
