Cat won't come down from top of pole

The fire department won't help. The local utility company won't take up the case either. It seems patience is the best option as neighbours try to coax a cat down from atop a cable and power pole in Centennial before it succumbs to dehydration or hunger.

"It can get down, it just won't," said Shannon Merrill, whose house is directly below the pole. The cat was first spotted atop the 20-30 foot pole at around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, Merrill said. They know his name is 'Moses' because his collar was found on the ground.

"We've had a whole backyard of neighbours trying to get him down," Merrill said. "His owners were here, calling its name and rattling his food box." Merrill said animal control offers came by Sunday and placed a ladder up against the pole, wrapped in blankets with a can of tuna on top. They also sprayed Moses with a water hose.

None of it worked. "The cat was obviously thirsty and drinking the water, but he wouldn't come down," said Merrill.
