An abandoned kitten has an unlikely new adoptive mother - a mini Yorkie named Reggie. Barb Clift's family took in the kitten, which was only a few days old when they found him. That's when Reggie stepped in to nurse the kitty.
"She immediately decided that this kitten was her baby and she would not let anybody near her or it." Clift of Ankeny, Iowa, says. Reggie's desire to become the kitten's new mother was so strong, she began nursing the kitten even though Reggie had never had puppies. Clift says the Yorkie is very protective of the kitten.
"For the first probably week she did not leave the bed with this baby," Clift says. "Even when we were eating. Even when she had to go outside we'd take her outside and she'd run back to the door. Didn't even want to go for a walk."
The family says it will be interesting to see if this strong bond remains as the kitten grows. But for now, they say, they're just enjoying watching Reggie play mommy, curled up in her bed with the kitten. "They puddle up," Clift says, "They're so sweet."
