A police spokesperson said an officer had used humour to defuse the situation and the trouble had stopped. However, senior officers are believed to have spoken to the officer involved. Police were called to Glasvey Drive in Twinbrook on 22 May where they passed a group of about 15 youths who began throwing bottles at their vehicle.
A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "An officer used the vehicle's tannoy system to play music to the youths in an effort to use humour to defuse the situation. The youths stopped throwing the bottles. However, police accept that this was not an appropriate action. The officer has been spoken to by a senior officer in order to establish the circumstances of the incident."
Sinn Fein councillor Angela Nelson told the Andersonstown News that the officer's actions "beggared belief". "The PSNI are put on the streets to do a serious job and that is to keep order on the streets and face down anti-social elements. This is like a sick joke."

Despite being armed, if they're not actually allowed to shoot or even taze the little bastards, I guess you've got make do with what you've got. Angela Nelson should try being bottled, petrol bombed, shot at and have to live miles away from where you work (for security purposes) and then comment about what's appropriate.
I guess shooting them would have been more appropriate?
L: If you're under attack and you're armed, what would you do? I'm quite impressed he went for the ice-cream-music approach, I sure wouldn't have.
At least using the music won't get you sued by the yobs' parents. I just don't understand why Angela Nelson thinks it's so inappropriate. It's like she wanted the streets to run red with blood!
there was no riting or bottles being thrown that was lies being told by the police to cover themselves.
