'Swallow it' slogan deemed distasteful

A rental campervan emblazoned with the slogan: "If you love me you would swallow it" has left some New Zealand McDonald's staff gagging.

A complaint from 60 staff about that one-liner has been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority, despite the Wicked Campers company which owns the van arguing it merely referred to swallowing emotions such as "annoyance or anger".

On behalf of Hamilton McDonald's staff, J Graham complained to the authority that people "were disturbed and upset" by the van's wording, which the complainant asserted had sexual connotations. "The words used were offensive, disgusting, appalling and the general view was that it had gone too far. Two people felt nauseous".

But the campervan company was unrepentant. "Wicked Campers cannot control the filthy minds of the general public who see a few words strung together and instantly think it means something rude and disgusting."

*eyeroll*

That's directed at everyone --the wusses who "feel nauseous" because of a racy slogan, and the corporate spokespeople who feign innocence.
