Woman says dog can count to ten

The owner of an Australian shepherd says that the dog, named Sydnee, can count to 10.

When given a number, the Sydnee barks that many times. She then gets a reward of raisins from her owner, Maxine Davis.

Davis got the dog when she was 10 months old from a soldier on his way to Iraq. She quickly learned typical tricks such as sit, shake and roll over.

Then, Davis realized the dog had a special talent when barking.

"I thought, 'That dog, she's just adding one finger, she's counting.' So apparently, she could count," she said. Sydnee can go up from one or down from 10, or in any other order.

Davis said the dog is so smart that she must sometimes spell things out to keep Sydnee from knowing what she is saying.

I'm not surprise that this woman has never heard of Clever Hans, but couldn't ANYONE step in before this was brought as real news?

If dogs are as smart as two-year-old kids, I'm not surprised.  Some kids are good with numbers.  Maybe some dogs are, too.

Now, if a dog could do calculus, I'd be really impressed.

I would look up if the news would have been that the owner could speak fluently in the language of that particular type of dog and -since she got the dog from a soldier who went to Iraq- she told they had livid  discussions on Zun Tzu, the Pentagon's current policy on the War on Terrorists and the current military strategies concerning Iran...
