Mayonnaise bandit arrested for library condiment crime spree

Authorities in Idaho believe they have finally apprehended the culprit behind a year-long campaign of vandalism against a local library that left a trail of condiments in its wake.

Police in Boise, Idaho say that 74-year-old Joy L. Cassidy was arrested after she was spotted pouring mayonnaise into the book return box of the Ada County library.

They say that she is a 'person of interest' in the investigation into at least 10 other condiment-related crimes against the library over the past year.

Cassidy was arrested on Sunday at the library, moments after police say she pulled through the outside drive-through and dumped an open jar of mayonnaise into the book drop box.

Boise police say Cassidy is also under investigation over repeated incidents of vandalism that began in May 2009 - during which reign of condiment terror library employees have reported finding books in the drop box covered in corn syrup and ketchup, as well as mayo.

Cassidy has been released from jail, and will face a charge of malicious injury to property.
