Are you f***ing kidding!?!?!?!? They should have called somebody to come get the deer in the first place. What if that was a kid out there? But yeah, if that were my dog that would've have been the end of the deer. Sorry.
The deer did nothing wrong, she just protected her offspring from the lone "wolf" - a natural predator - that wandered nearby. Killing her for vengeance would be petty and uncivilized.
If I was standing there seeing my dog get kicked to death, I would hands down kill the deer over letting it kill my dog. If that's uncivilized, then I guess I am. But I bet she tastes good! :)
I talked to my daughter in PA about this, as they have deer running around thier neighborhood all the time. She said there was a cull this year, but even so, her husband and sons saw eight deer just out walking the dog the other night. They live in a suburb of Pittsburgh, albeit across the river from the city.
The cat was the one acting like a predator, though. I think it clearly had its sights set on eating the fawn -- the way it was rubbing its scent on it and then following it all low and stalky -- although it probably couldn't have pulled it off. Mama deer took forever to notice him (or perhaps she recognized it as just wishful thinking on the cat's part).
Here's a question: Why wasn't that dog either in a fenced-in yard or on a leash? If they owners care about the dog enough to want to protect it, they should be proactive and keep it at a safe distance from a wild animal.

That was so painful to watch. I really want to know if the dog survived but there's no info on the Youtube page.

I didn't mean a situation where you had to kill the deer to save your dog.
Crankbrook is a small town in the mountains of BC, so deer are probably not rare.

I think someone on Neatorama said the dog walked away from the attack a little shaken but otherwise okay.
