Springwatch presenter Chris Packham's 'dogging' remarks spark complaints

Springwatch presenter Chris Packham has sparked complaints after joking live on air about going “dogging” in a royal park.

Packham, 49, left his co-hosts, the fragrant Kate Humble and Martin Hughes-Games nervous after he said on Monday’s show: “I can do a bit of dogging and bird watching at the same time.”

Six viewers called the BBC and others complained on the website after he joked about a clip in which he was distracted by dogs in Kensington Gardens. A viewer wrote: “Sexual innuendo is not acceptable... you make reference to dogging in a royal park. I’m certain the Queen would not approve.”

Packham put it down to a bit of “banter” and added: “We were discussing birding – short for bird-watching – and a new word for dog-watching sprang out.” But 19 others backed the presenter, with one saying: “Lighten up and laugh!”

Seriously, lighten up and laugh. It was a double-entendre. Or is joking about sex in a public park like joking about a bomb at the airport?
