Two runaway lemurs caught in Austrian hotel bar

Two young ring-tailed lemurs were caught in a hotel bar near Salzburg on Thursday - not because of underage drinking, but because the primates had escaped from a zoo.

The big-eyed runaways walked into the watering hole at the Gruenauerhof hotel in the morning, having covered 25 kilometres since stealing away on Sunday.

"They are pubescent lemurs," said Christine Beck-Graninger, the spokeswoman of the Salzburg zoo. "They are totally curious and self-confident."

The hotel bar is decorated with branches, which probably reminded the animals of their normal sleeping place, the spokeswoman added. The hotel staff did not offer drinks to the lemurs, but closed the doors and alerted the zookeepers.
