Man is beaten and robbed after buying woman cigar

A casual trip to buy a woman a cigar turned violent for one man on Tuesday night when he was beaten and robbed. Police were called at about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday to look for a woman and two men believed to be involved in the incident, which ended in a police chase across southeast Colorado Springs.

The man and woman met when she asked him for gas money, police said. After receiving some cash, the woman returned a short while later and asked if he would buy her a cigar. Stepping into her vehicle, the two went to a nearby convenience store and then to the Whitney Apartments on the 2100 block of Delta Drive, police said. There, the man stayed in the vehicle while the woman briefly stepped out.

At that moment, two men surrounded the man, robbing and beating him while he was still in the vehicle. The woman returned, claimed she did not know about the robbery, and said she would take the victim to his house. Before they arrived, though, the two robbers cut them off, (I'm not entirely sure what this means), leaving the man to run away.

The woman and the two men then fled the scene. Police eventually spotted the SUV believed to have been used by the robbers and began chasing them. Eventually, the people inside the SUV ditched the vehicle and ran off. They were not found.
