Leopard and dog rescued from well in India

A leopard and a dog it was chasing accidentally fell into an open well in Soodapalli Gram panchayat, near Shirva, on Saturday night. Locals and forest personnel managed to rescue both the leopard and the pet dog at around 3pm on Sunday.

The hungry leopard from a nearby forest had ventured onto the property of Poovappa Sapaliga in search of prey. As it chased the dog, both fell into the well.

While searching for their dog on Sunday morning the Sapaliga family found both animals in the well, exhausted from swimming in the water. They informed the forest department and officials arrived with cages to be lowered into the well. They then rescued both animals with the help of local youths.

The forest personnel transported the leopard to the National Reserve Forest at Kudremukh where it was set free. The dog was returned to its master.
