Freddie the cockerel left traumatised after being dumped in wheelie bin

A distressed cockerel has been found trapped in a wheelie bin – in an apparent copycat of the attack on dumped cat Lola. The bird, named Freddie, was scooped out of the large container outside a block of flats in Barnwood, Gloucester, on Tuesday.

It is believed the cockerel had been left out for collection – but he was rescued before binmen arrived. It is not known how long he was trapped inside. Furious animal protection inspectors slammed the callous criminals who dumped frightened Freddie.

Josie Oak, an RSPCA inspector, said: ''I am disgusted that someone has placed a living animal inside a wheelie bin and am keen to hear from anyone who knows who was responsible.'' Local councillor Phil McLellan added: ''It's pretty appalling that someone could dump a live bird in a bin like that.

''I hope the person responsible can be caught and we can find out how and why this happened.'' The bird is now recovering at an RSPCA-approved boarding kennels until his future is decided.
