Lifeboat launched for seagull-chasing dog

The volunteer crew from the Penlee RNLI lifeboat station was launched to rescue a dog that had swam a quarter of a mile from the shore.

The dog had decided to swim after a few seagulls and ended up a quarter of a mile from Long Rock beach. The RNLI always respond if there is a concern that the owner or a worried member of the public is likely to put themselves in danger trying to help the animal.

The dog was lifted aboard the Paul Alexander and taken to the lifeboat station where the grateful owner picked her up. David Osborne, RNLI Helmsman for Penlee’s RNLI inshore lifeboat, says:

‘The young dog was a long way out from the beach but was glad to see us, she was a bit cold when we got her aboard but other than that she was fine, the local well known owner was very grateful.’
