Would-be boot scooters were in for a shock when they turned up for their Adult Ed line-dancing class in Hobart this week the instructors were intending to teach them the altogether more raunchy art of pole dancing. Not surprisingly, instructor Sarah Muir said the session was "a disaster". "I tried to see the funny side of it, but I felt sorry for the ladies," she said.
The confusion arose after the course was listed in the Adult Ed program as "Line Dancing Urban Cowboys". "It was meant to be Hobart's urban cowboys polzotic dance, a special combination of pole and exotic dancing," said Ms Muir. "When I sent the information to Adult Education they presumed it was line dancing."
And that's exactly what the dozen or so class participants, mainly women, were expecting. Ms Muir said she was alerted to the mistake in the course description in the Adult Ed guide a couple of weeks ago and told Adult Education that she did not teach line dancing, which she knew nothing about. "I put together a combination of line, pole and exotic dancing to add a bit of yee-ha and a bit of burlesque so they could enjoy themselves," Ms Muir said.
But it did not go well. "There were obviously some very disgruntled persons, there were some upset people," she said. "But I think the guys really enjoyed the class." Ms Muir told them she knew a line dancing instructor, Debbie Wolfe-Wright, and she would see if she could get her to do the remaining sessions.
