Mother cat makes puppy one of the family

An experience of unconditional love took place on Thursday at The Cleveland Animal Protective League. It all began when a puppy's mother died during birth on Oct. 8 and the owner was unable to keep up with bottle-feeding the puppy every two to three hours. So Bambi was dropped off at the APL. An unexpected helper stepped in to save the day and nurse the chihuahua/shih tzu mix to good health.

Mrs. Rabbit, a stray cat dropped off by a good samaritan with her kittens, took Bambi in as one of the family. Bambi now enjoys rolling around with his new kitten siblings, Thumper and Friend Owl. If the names of all involved sound familiar, a review of the characters in the movie Bambi will confirm this familiarity.

The new family of four will remain together in foster care in a loving home for about another month until they are old enough, and big enough, to be fixed. They will then be put up for adoption. Bambi already has a list of people ready to adopt him while Mrs. Rabbit and her kittens are still looking for a new home.

Workers at the APL feel blessed to have witnessed what they call a miracle in action. "We have an organization here that's full of incredibly passionate, compassionate, committed humans," said Sharon Harvey, Executive Director of The Cleveland APL. "Now, we even have one of our animals, Mrs. Rabbit, helping us to save lives."
