Channel 4 viewers may not have known which way to look when an unfortunate combination of words appeared in yesterday's Countdown conundrum. Contestants on the afternoon quiz show fought back the giggles as host Jeff Stelling revealed the answer to the show's final word game was an anagram of "large baps".
The blushes only increased when one contestant buzzed to solve the jumbled word, which was "graspable". Stelling acknowledged the risqué finale, saying: "That's quite brilliant. I thought that was an impossible conundrum."
A spokesman for Channel 4 said: "I think viewers will be aware of the tongue-incheek nature of the show. It's up to the viewer to construe whether they think the combination of clue and answer was inappropriate.
"All of the show's content is carefully considered to make sure it is suitable for broadcast at that time of day. If those two words were put together intentionally, they certainly were not meant to cause offence."
