Jail for man accused of marinating cat - Update

The Cheektowaga man accused of marinating his cat in the trunk of a car back in August has been extradited from Maryland on the arrest warrant, according to Buffalo Police.

Gary Korkuc, 52 is currently at the Erie County Holding Center in Buffalo awaiting further proceedings. Korkuc was arrested and charged back in August with aggravated cruelty to animals, failing to stop at a stop sign and other traffic violations.

According to a police report officers in the process of ticketing Gary Korkuc, 51, discovered the cat which "... appeared to be marinating in crushed red pepper, chili powder, salt and oil" inside his car. Buffalo Police Spokesperson Michael DeGeorge says it doesn't appear that Korkuc broke any laws in Maryland.

"Maryland Police, Maryland authorities working with Buffalo Police I believe came across the individual. After running a check on him realized that he was wanted for a warrant in Buffalo and contacted Buffalo Police and the extradition process was started." The cat formerly known as Navarro went home from the Erie County SPCA with a new name - "Oliver" - and a new owner, Vicki Dankowski.
