Millions watch as live TV stunt goes wrong

Millions of viewers watched in horror as a contestant in a TV daredevil show was seriously injured while trying to bounce over five cars on spring-powered stilts.

Samuel Koch was left slumped and unconscious after bounding over the third moving vehicle and landing on his face.

Members of the audience at the German Wetten, Dass? show studio gasped and consoled each other with hugs as the amateur stuntman lay sprawled on the floor.

Presenter Thomas Gottschalk announced he was calling off the show for the first time since he began hosting it in 1987. Koch, 23, was taken to the University Hospital of Dusseldorf. His injuries are said to be serious.
