Young lady finding herself locked in airport overnight

Entertains herself.

Allegedly.

No CCTV?

If this is real, it makes you wonder about all this airport security. She could have planted anything. Why bother trying to blow up a plane when a busy airport terminal is apparently so easily accessible?

Chinese censors ban reporting of wild Siberian tiger's death

The first Siberian tiger cub to be found in the wild in China in at least 20 years has died less than two days after being discovered.

Censors have covered up the death, which casts a shadow over what is potentially the best conservation news the country has had for decades.

It also raises questions about the handling and timing of the discovery, which comes as China celebrates the start of the lunar year of the Tiger and a major financial push to save the biggest cat on the planet.

Amazing dog beats the odds to walk again

They say it's a dog's life, but things were not looking too promising for four-year-old Hoppa from Israel.

Born without any front legs, keeping up with the other puppies was a struggle.

Now though, Hoppa has a very good reason to wag his tail because he has been fitted with a special prosthetic harness.

The wheels mean Hoppa can move around even more quickly than some of his fellow dogs and it is hoped the model could work for other disabled dogs in the future.

Rare Buddhist flower found under nun's washing machine

A rarely seen Buddhist flower, which blossoms every 3,000 years, has been discovered under a nun's washing machine.

The Udumbara flower was found in the home of a Chinese nun in Lushan Mountain, Jiangxi province, China.

The rare Youtan Poluo or Udumbara flower, which, according to Buddhist legend, only blooms every 3,000 years, measures just 1mm in diametre.

Miao Wei, 50, was cleaning when she discovered the cluster of white flowers under the washing machine.

At first she thought the barely-there stems were worm eggs, however, the next day she discovered that the stems had grown 18 white tiny flowers on top and smelled "fragrant".

Local temples believe the mini blooms are specimens of the miraculous Youtan Poluo flower - called "Udumbara" or "Udambara" in Sanskrit, meaning "an auspicious flower from heaven."

Boy develops fish scales

This 14-month-old child born without pores in his skin has baffled medics by developing fish scales.

Doctors believe little Song Sheng, of Jinhu, eastern China, may be suffering from a rare genetic condition that means his body cannot cool itself.

The boy - called fish boy by locals - began developing scales within days of his birth caused by his lack of pores.

Doctors say because he can't sweat or lose heat through his skin, it peels away in fish-like scales. Instead, his family control his body temperature by laying him in baths of ice.

Dad Song Dehui said: "He is in a lot of pain all the time and if we don't have enough ice he gets a fever."

But doctors have told Song there is still no known cure for the genetic condition, known as Lamellar ichthyosis. "It can be treated but not cured so we are praying for a miracle or a folk medicine cure," said Song.

Disabled AC/DC fan impaled in mosh pit at Brisbane concert

A quadriplegic AC/DC fan suffered serious facial injuries when a mate accidentally hit the joystick of his motorised wheelchair and catapulted him into the mosh pit during a concert at the Queensland Sport and Athletic Centre on Saturday night.

Witnesses said a metal pin used by the 31-year-old Morningside man to manoeuvre objects became a spear and embedded in his eye as his chair crashed more than a metre to the centre's floor.

The incident happened at about 10pm as more than 45,000 fans danced to the legendary Aussie rockers during the second of their two sold-out Brisbane shows.

The man's friend moved his left hand when it struck the joystick and the wheelchair shot forward and fell end over end. "He was shattered, just devastated by what happened," a person said of the distraught mate.

Paramedics immediately attended the quadriplegic, a former truck driver who became paralysed after an accident.

A Princess Alexandra Hospital official said the man was out of intensive care yesterday but was still in a serious, but stable condition. He had no information on whether the man had lost an eye.

Flying hovercraft for sale

A New Zealand inventor has put a bizarre floating machine that can also take to the skies up for sale.

Mechanic Rudy Heeman took the model of a hovercraft to create the WIG or "wing in ground effective vehicle".

It rides like a normal hovercraft but, once it reaches a speed of 70km an hour, it becomes airborne. It took Mr Heeman more than a decade to complete the machine.

Over those years, he taught himself to laminate fibreglass, modify car engines and gain an understanding in basic aeronautics in order to drive the vehicle himself.

Some of the parts used to create his flying hovercraft are household items, including "an old gas bottle of a barbecue", he said. The wings are removable - a handy feature for transporting the WIG, but deadly if they are not secured properly.

Mr Heeman is now trying to sell his flying hovercraft at trademe.co.nz.

Wedding elephant destroys 20 vehicles in 15-hour rampage

An elephant hired for a Hindu wedding in India caused more than £200,000 damage after trying to reach an in-heat female.

The turned-on tusker trampled 20 limos trying to reach the female in a nearby sugar cane field in the Indian town of Meerut.

He also then mounted and attempted to mate with a truck, and smashed through a shopping mall in the 15-hour rampage.

His adventure was finally brought to an end when wildlife experts managed to bring him down with a tranquilliser gun. ‘It is a very powerful urge,’ said one expert.

Man drove car while walking his dog

A County Durham man caught walking his lurcher through the window of his moving car has lost his licence. Paul Railton, 23, of Annfield Plain, admitted breaching two counts of the Road Traffic Act, at Consett Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police caught Railton driving his car with the dog lead attached through the window, after being alerted in Stoney Heap Lane by a cyclist. Magistrates fined Railton a total of £124 and gave him three penalty points.

Railton was disqualified from driving for six months as he already had nine points on his licence, three for speeding and six for an insurance offence. Under the totting up procedure, he had 12 points and had to be disqualified.

In mitigation, his solicitor, Paul Donoghue, said: "He accepts it was a silly thing to do, borne out with an element of laziness." He said Railton was driving slowly and that Stoney Heap Lane was a very quiet back-road.

Lady goes to Manchester Airport every weekend and finally gets her wish to sit in plane

A 71-year-old woman who visits Manchester airport every week, but has never been on a plane, has finally boarded her favourite jet. Rosemary Bate goes to the Aviation Viewing Park every weekend and marvels at the the pilots who land the Cathay Pacific 747 cargo plane.

Ms Bate wrote to airport bosses asking them to "fix it" for her to meet the aircraft's pilots. She was invited on board and said it was "a dream come true". Captain John Rands welcomed Ms Bate on board the plane before it headed to Hong Kong.

Ms Bate said she never even expected a reply from the airport. "I have actually never been on a plane in my whole life so I really enjoy coming to the airport at the weekend for the excitement of seeing the aircraft take off and land," she said. "I have been interested in the Cathay Pacific cargo plane as it is so large I can't comprehend the skill and talent it must take in landing it here. I have felt like an excitable child at the thought of having a look around the aircraft today, it really has made my dreams come true."

Andrew Cornish, Manchester Airport's Managing Director, said Ms Bate's was a "particularly unusual request". "I am very pleased we were able to fix it so Mrs Bate got to live out her dream and I'm glad that she enjoyed it," he said.

Man goes from pig farmer to Boy George look-a-like

A former pig farmer turned Boy George look-a-like has created a booming business for himself.

Father-of-two Matt Endersby, who uses the stage name Bye George, started performing as the Culture Club star after being spotted by an agent at a friend's costume party.

Nine months later he earns between £150 to £300 for a performance of crowd pleasers such as Karma Chameleon, compared to the £2.50-an-hour he earned working in the fields.

The 42-year-old from Sittingbourne said: "I have been really shocked by just how well things have been going. Lots of people have been stopping me in the streets and asked if I am the real Boy George.

"I have put henna tattoos on my hands and have patterns on the side of my head, so I guess I look more like him than ever before.

"I'm trying to represent his cleaner side and steer away from his previous troubles. Everyone has done things in their life that they shouldn't. I have been taking singing lessons and voice coaching and I see this going from strength to strength in the future."

Offensive graffiti vandal sought

A vandal has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage by spray painting more than 50 "offensive" images of male genitals in Sussex.

Adur District Council and Sussex Police have appealed for help to catch the culprit who targeted walls in Goring-by-sea and Durrington.

The paint, which is removed within 24 hours of being reported, has so far cost more than £1,000 to clean up.

Mike Barnard of the Adur and Worthing Safer Communities Partnership said: "These images were deliberately placed where they would offend as many people as possible."
